Salutations Celeste Del Ru

After careful consideration and months of searching for an internship, a friend of mine who works at Rowan's Writing Center has brought your organization to my attention. I believe I can be a valuable tutor to the team. I am a Junior and a Writing Arts Major at Rowan University with three years of experience in taking Writing Arts courses and a concentration in Creative Writing. I am also a part of the Writing Arts Club as the vice president of the E-Board. I have proven my academic excellence by being on the National Honor Society, Dean’s List, and President’s List throughout my time at Rowan. I have written numerous poems, short stories, and scripts. One of my works is an article I posted on Halftone where I analyzed anti-heroes in fiction and media consumers’ weird obsession with them. Another of my works is a poem about a dog and a pineapple.

I could provide the Writing Center with someone keen on attention to detail, can brainstorm ideas on the fly, and can work with many different writing genres. In the Writing Arts Club, we only have a few minutes to develop a story based on a prompt given to us, but with each prompt, I was quick to find a story idea and how to format that story within a short time frame. I have experience in writing on physical paper, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word. If the student I tutor writes on napkins, I can work with that too, though I prefer Docs for its ease of use and accessibility. I am also versed in giving meaningful critiques, and I recognize that as a valued skill for a tutor. I have experience taking classes involving group meetings where reviewing people’s work would be our assignment. We are often instructed to come up with feedback that provides a meaningful pathway to the one receiving it while not being harsh. Fortunately, I was able to find that balance by carefully reading the work in question and starting with the positives. It would be inspiring to be a part of the Writing Center and its legion of extraordinarily talented writers.

Sincerely,

Luke R. Cobas, Writing Arts Major
